Q: Is my septic system plan in your office?
Yes, if your house was constructed or your system was altered after 1978.
Q: How close can wells be to each other?
There are currently no distance requirements.
Q: Do you check the beach waters in the summer?
Yes, we monitor all public beaches weekly.
Q: What do I need for a water test?
Samples are accepted for testing on Tuesdays only. Using a brown 16 oz. bottle - available from the drug store - take a sample of water on Tuesday morning. Be careful not to contaminate the bottle or cap when taking the sample. Let the water run for 15 minutes before taking the sample. Bring the following to the Health Department at 37 Washington St. by 9:15 AM on Tuesday morning:
1) Check for $30 payable to Barnstable County Lab
2) $5 Cash or check payable to Town of Nantucket (for airfare)
3) Water sample
