How do I apply for a Permanent Nantucket Disabled Parking Permit?
Please call the Nantucket Commission on Disability for an application and one will be sent to you in the mail, or you can receive an application at your local Nantucket physician’s office. You will complete the front side of the application and have your physician complete the reverse side. Once the Commission receives your completed application, it will be reviewed and processed in a timely manner. You can also download an application on this web site.

How do I apply for a Temporary Disabled Parking Permit?
Temporary Disability for less than six months: The Nantucket Police Department issues these temporary, disabled parking permits. Please visit the Nantucket Police on South Water Street and request an application for a Temporary Disabled Parking Permit. This temporary, disabled parking permit is valid for six weeks and can be renewed every six weeks as needed for your temporary disability. Visitors, part-time and full-time residents are welcome to apply.
Temporary Disability for six months or more: If the anticipated length of your disability is six months or greater, then you can contact the Nantucket Commission on Disability for an application and one will be mailed to you, or you can receive an application at your Nantucket physician’s office, or you can also download an application on this web site. You will complete the front side of the application and have your physician complete the reverse side. Once the Commission receives your completed application, it will be reviewed and processed in a timely manner. Part-time and full-time residents are welcome to apply.

Where are the accessible parking spaces in town?
There are eight disabled parking spaces in the core downtown area:
1.      Two spaces on Center Street near Main Street
2.      One space on Center Street near Broad Street
3.      Two spaces on Federal Street near Broad Street
4.      One space on Federal Street near India Street
5.      One space on Cambridge Street near Coal Lane
6.      One space on South Water Street near Broad Street
7.      One space on Washington Street near Main Street

Where can I rent motorized and manual wheelchairs?
You can rent a manual wheelchair at the following locations:
Nantucket Pharmacy on Main Street (508) 228-0180
Dan’s Pharmacy at Nantucket Commons (508) 825-9100
You cannot rent a motorized wheelchair on Nantucket. However, you can rent one in Hyannis, Massachusetts and bring it with you on the ferry. Please call Westgate Home Medical Equipment in advance and make the necessary arrangements.
